CP Manufacturing, manufacturer of large Recycling and Material Recovery Facilities, contracted Coast Industrial Systems, Inc. in 2010, to provide & install an electronic proportioning system utilizing the most advanced & current Graco™ technology; the Graco™ ProMix® 2KS. With this system Coast Industrial Systems, Inc. & CP Manufacturing worked together streamlining their paint process to realize paint, solvent & labor savings.

CP Manufacturing products require a Direct to Metal polyurethane in multiple colors to provide toughness as well as Chemical/UV resistance. Previously this coating was applied without proportioning equipment where both components of the finish were combined by hand & sprayed using a pump; this method is typically referred to as “Hot-Potting”. Hot-potting required the Paint to be reduced by 25% with solvent in order to be sprayable. In addition, the operators routinely adjusted the paint with additional solvent while spraying.

The multiple color and high production requirements were met by the Graco™ ProMix® 2KS; installed with multiple feed pumps and supply vessels. This system, once installed, decreased Solvent use by 75%, reducing its purchase volume as well as disposal costs. Color change time was also reduced from 25 min to 2min with the use of the ProMix® 2KS. Increased transfer efficiency & throughput was realized as well because all mixing decisions were taken out of the operators hands.

The system as a whole had a Return on Investment, (ROI), of six months.
